Join Us for Israel’s 75th Birthday Celebration!

Friday, March 3 - Saturday, March 4

Everyone loves a party! So please join CBJ to celebrate Israel’s 75th birthday for this special fundraising event on Friday evening, March 3 and Saturday evening March 4!

Want to laugh, learn, and connect with Israel?

Come join us for Israel’s 75th birthday celebration live at CBJ – fun, food, comedy and conversation about Israeli history, daily life, and culture, in honor of the country’s historic 75th birthday!

Joining us will be special guest Joel Chasnoff, co-author of the forthcoming book Israel 201: Your Next-Level Guide to the Magic, Mystery, and Chaos of Life in the Holy Land. The book has received praise from such notable Jewish-world voices as Mayim Bialik, Yossi Klein Halevi, and former prime minister Ehud Barak.

Joel, a comedian by trade, will make us laugh, engage us in (friendly) discussion about the current state of the country, and teach us about the magic of the Hebrew language.

As Joel puts it: “I intend to show you the Israel you didn’t know you didn’t know,  and shed some light on the challenges Israel faces today. My hope is that you’ll leave with just as many questions as answers!”

Dates: Friday evening March 3 and Saturday evening March 4.

March 3 - Friday evening Shabbat and Special Oneg – “Being Jewish in a Jewish StateLecture plus Q & A and discussion (In-person and Live Stream)

A game-based conversation about what happens when Jews get a country of their own, and what a Jewish state should and shouldn’t look like. TV and radio stations that go dark on Yom Kippur. Child custody laws based upon the Talmud. Shomer Shabbos car insurance policies for drivers who promise not to use their cars on the Sabbath.

Strange things happen when Jews get a country of their own. In “Being Jewish in a Jewish State,” we examine the intersection of Judaism and daily life in Israel, from critical life cycle issues such as marriage and divorce to even the small details of bus schedules and media programming. The results are sometimes oppressive and other times, magical. But always uniquely Israeli.

March 4 - Saturday evening Havdalah and Dinner together; and then “Living in the Land of Milk and Funny” Comedy Show plus Book signing/Q & A (in-person and Zoom)

What’s so funny about Israel? How about...everything! In Living In the Land of Milk and Funny, Joel introduces audiences to the “oys” and joys of Israeli life, everything from supposedly - English-speaking tour guides to government-sponsored Ulpan Hebrew classes and the culture shock he experienced as olim hadashim (new immigrants).

Unlike many Jewish comics, Joel bases his humor on real experiences and a deep love for Judaism and Israel, a love that shines through in every performance.
